Michael W. Johnson

NSSGA President and CEO Michael W. Johnson serves as the lead advocate for the stone, sand and gravel industry. Johnson is responsible for the strategic development and execution of the association’s advocacy mission in the areas of industry promotion, membership advocacy and advancing public policies that protect and expand the safe, environmentally responsible use of aggregates. In this role, he continues to successfully energize and focus the association’s resources to best serve the industry.
Before this current role, Johnson served as the executive vice president, chief lobbyist, and top political officer with the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA). Johnson also served as vice president of government affairs with the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA). His first position in Washington was with former Sen. Wendell H. Ford, D-Ky., serving in various capacities, including political director.
Johnson earned the prestigious Institute of Organization Management (IOM) designation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation in 2018. He is also a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Association Committee of 100 and is an American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Key Industry Association Council member.
A Kentucky native, Johnson earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Journalism at the University of Kentucky, where he currently serves on the Alumni Advisory Board for the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Political Science. He remains a devoted Wildcat fan, as well as an avid golfer.Back to Speakers
