NARS Names Tom Tisa, CSX, as President

NARS welcomes Tom Tisa, CSX head of marketing & strategic development, as its new president.
He looks forward to furthering the organization’s mission.
“The most rewarding part of being associated with NARS is the value we create for industry professionals by developing agendas with high-level executives and providing networking opportunities,” Tisa said.
His transportation industry career began in 1989 with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway’s marketing department after he graduated from the University of Notre Dame, which preceded graduate studies at the University of Chicago. He also held roles with Illinois Central Railroad and director positions with Canadian National Railway.
Tisa᾿s current responsibilities with CSX involve short line engagement and port activity, as the company’s network connects with 240 and 70 of them, respectively. His background brings a valuable perspective to NARS. He views consistent, reliable service as one of the biggest conversation topics for its members.
“Service is critical for rail customers to be competitive in their markets,” he said. “Good service also is good business for railroads to increase volumes and manage costs.”
Tisa’s NARS involvement began with his Midwest Association of Rail Shippers (MARS) membership and presidency. He wholeheartedly believes in the organization’s aim to bring railroads and shippers together.
“Networking is a significant part of succeeding in our businesses,” he said. “We not only learn from one another, but we also can grow in our businesses together.”
While Tisa plans to focus on improving communication tools and increasing industry exposure during his term, he also hopes to grow membership.
“Getting involved with NARS and regional associations is a great way to form connections and learn about industry trends,” he said.
