The North East Association of Rail Shippers is headquartered in the Boston area. Its membership territory cover the Maritime Provinces plus Ontario and Quebec and the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont and the District of Columbia.

Predecessor organizations include the Atlantic States Shippers Advisory Board formed in 1924, the New England Shippers Advisory Board formed in 1925 and the Allegheny Regional Shippers Advisory Board formed in 1926. Seminars are held twice yearly in the spring and fall. Annual dues are $50.
